General Rules and Information

Table Top Game Room Rules

Disclaimer: Administrators, Game Masters, Judges, and Staff of Anime Expos’ (“AX”) Table Top Game Room cannot be held responsible for all room content. Any activity in this room is solely the expressed views of their respective authors and may not reflect the views of AX. The owners, administrators, and representatives of AX may remove, ban, or expel from room or con grounds anyone who can be deemed inappropriate or are in violation of any established rules.

General Advice: It is generally advisable that you show up at least 30 minutes to an hour early for the event you wish to be in.

While AX promotes flexibility, and a fair exchange of ideas, we will not tolerate discrimination or bigotry of any kind, which may range from sexual harassment to gender rights, political views, or any other such biases as associated with race, creed, culture, religion, etc. As such, it is a necessary duty to establish rules for maintaining proper conduct among the boards, and to provide a social medium upon which people may express their views on all things anime-related or otherwise without harassment.

Any and all users of the AX Table Top Game Room are required to read through these rules, and participation in any activity in the table top game room is a confirmation that the rules have been read and understood. All parties who infringe upon any of these rules will be subject to penalties ranging from removal from event or activity, or permanent banning. “I didn’t know!” excuses will not be accepted. You are hereby forewarned.

Please be aware that all rules, tournaments, and events are subject to change at the discretion of the Table Top Staff, and that Staff members are not required to notify convention attendee’s of these changes. It is the responsibility of the attendee to be aware of all current room rules, events, and tournaments.

Basic Rules:

  1. No Excessive Swearing. We understand that we’re all adults here, but remember AX has children about too.
  2. No Rule Lawyering. We have our staff there to arbitrate any rule discrepancies that may exist!
  3. No insulting or “putting down” another person for their game play. Remember, you were once a Noob too!
  4. No Eating, Drinking, or Smoking in the Room. Do that elsewhere.
  5. No Selling of merchandise/cards/collectables. Unless you have a dealer’s hall badge, this is illegal and will result in the loss of your con badge.
  6. Bring Your Own Game Material. While we do attempt to provide dice, pencils, paper, etc, we simply don’t have enough for everyone. Please bring your own game supplies if it is at all possible.
  7. No Openly Arguing with Event Staff. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the event. If you feel the Staff member is wrong, either bring the problem to the attention of the Head Game Master/Event Organizer or quietly address the Event Staff Member outside of the event. Don’t make a show and ruin the fun for everyone else.
  8. NO ANTE, or Betting! At no time can you bet, wager, force or require another player to ante up anything during game play for any reason.
  9. No Asking the Table Top Game Room Staff for advice on trading. Our staff members are not the final authorities on the value of collectable items. They are not allowed to issue advice on what would be a “fair” trade. Please consult collectable price guide magazines for the most up-to-date information on the value of your collectables.
  10. The Game Master/ Event Staff is always right. Should the event staff or GM be wrong, please refer to rule number 9. If you have any further concerns, please address the events Head Game Master/Manager.
  11. Use Common Sense. There are a lot of things that you probably shouldn’t do, most of them are common sense. If you are unsure whether something would be okay or not, just ask one of our staff members. Remember, the actions of one can affect the efforts of many!

Penalty System

Violating the rules will bring the following consequences unless otherwise stated:

  • First Penalty – Verbal Warning
  • Second Penalty – Removal from Event
  • Third Penalty – Removal from the room (1 day)
  • Fourth Penalty- Removal from the room for the entire Con.

*Note: In some rare circumstances, it may be necessary to skip over some steps in the penalty system as appropriate for the circumstances at hand. This will be on a case-by-case situation.

*A third or fourth infraction may also warrant the removal of the offending party’s con badge at staff discretion.

*The tournament floor rules and penalties apply in conjunction with the rooms existing code of conduct.

  1. No Excessive Swearing. We understand that we’re all adults here, but remember AX has children about too.
  2. No insulting or “putting down” another person for their game play. Remember, you were once a Noob too!
  3. Play Fair. Don’t cheat, or attempt to bend the rules in your favor.
  4. No Help. You are not allowed to converse or seek consultation with anyone during the match.
  5. No Openly Arguing with Event Staff. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the event. If you feel the Staff member is wrong, either bring the problem to the attention of the Head Game Master/Event Organizer or quietly address the Event Staff Member outside of the event. Player Problem Escalation Process:
Should a player at any time feel that a play is wrong they may proceed with the following steps:

  1. Immediately call for a Game Master or Judge to make a ruling. GM’s and Judges cannot overturn the results of a game once they have been reported. Once a Judge or GM has issued the ruling the game proceeds.
  2. If the player feels that the GM or Judge is wrong, they may appeal (once per ruling situation) to the room’s Head GM/Judge or Event Coordinator. The Head GM/Judge or Event Coordinator’s ruling is FINAL.
  3. In case of an emergency the room’s Manager or Assistant Manager reserves the privilege to overturn any ruling for any reason at any time.

Tournament Penalties

  1. Late for the tournament. May invalidate your ability to play in that tournament.
  2. Late for a match (Up to five minutes). If you are late up to 5 minutes for a match you automatically lose 1 round.

  3. Late for a match (Up to 10 minutes). If you are late up to 10 minutes for a match you automatically lose both rounds of that match.
  4. Openly Arguing with a staff member or Head Judge/GM. Automatic removal from the tournament.

*Note: In some rare circumstances, it may be necessary to skip over some steps in the penalty system as appropriate for the circumstances at hand. This will be on a case by case situation.

Events and Tournaments

Anime-Zing Race!

The Anime-Zing Race is a scavenger hunt like no other for teams of two to four people organized, and ran by the staff members of the Table Top Game Room! Compete with other convention attendees in a three day event filled with zaney races, incredible scavenger hunts, and insane game challenges for guts, glory, and awesome prizes!

Registration:
To register email your team of no less than two no more than four members to waynephelps@spja.org no less than Thursday, June 30th by midnight or Sign up at the Table Top Game Room staff desk anytime before Sunday at Noon. Anyone with a valid convention pass may be eligible for play.

Game Play:
To play, report with your team to the Table Top Game Room, and receive your team’s Anime-Zing Race event card. The card will detail the games, and events you are eligible to participate in, and the point total completing the events are worth.

Only one representative from your team is needed to communicate with the Table Top Staff, so please select a team leader. If you don’t select a team leader the Table Top Staff may appoint one for you.
Some events, or games may require you to provide proof to the Table Top Staff that you completed the event within our designated parameters, video, or camera proof will be accepted, as will the word or signature of any other Convention Staff. Please note that some events will require you to photograph your results, so camera phones are recommended.

Completing Tasks:
To get credit for a task you must have half of your team +1 participating in that specific task for credit. You cannot “divide and concur” unless a specific tasks says so.

Please note that some events will only be able to be attempted once per day, and points can only be scored for completing a specific task once.

Some Challenges (okay, most challenges) will require you to defeat a Table Top Staffer at a specific task, each staffer (there’s 15 of us in all) can only be challenged (win or lose) ONCE per day! If you lose, you can challenge another staffer in 4 hours.

Any challenge requiring the majority of the staff unless otherwise stated, to agree upon a winner is always rounded down among the staff judging.

Winning:
We will be awarding minor prizes for the team with the most points at the end (12 midnight) of the day. The minor prize will be awarded in the game room the following morning at 10am. The major prize winning team will be announced on Monday July 4rth at 12 noon. The winning team will be determined by the members of the Table Top Staff based upon the number of points, and completed events that the team has. Any tie breakers will be administered by the Table Top Staff, and will be conducted in the Table Top Game Room. A team representative MUST be present to win.

Settlers of Catan: An Anime Expo Tournament

We’re very excited to announce that we’ll be hosting a very special Settlers of Catan tournament in the Table Top Game Room this year at Anime Expo on Saturday July 2nd from 12 noon to 6pm. The event will pit players against each other in the game of Catan, and only the best will proceed to the final round and battle it out to see who is the Grand Champion for 2011! The event will be first come first served, so sign up early, and show up early if you want a chance to play. This event is being sponsored by Mayfield games. Prize support will be announced at the start of the event.

GUN SLINGER

We are offering a new format this year to our normal line up of Table Top Games. The event is called “Gun Slinger”. In our Game Room we’ll have a board listing all of our staffers and the games they play. If you can challenge and beat the staffer at their own game, then you may win a cool prize! See Table Top Staff for details.

Table Top Game Room: Cosplay Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament

The Table Top Game Room will be hosting a cosplay poker night at Anime Expo this year for fun and prizes. The event layout is listed as below. All further questions can be forwarded to the event organizer Wayne Phelps (WayneP on the forum). Space for this event will be very limited, so it will be first come first served at the door! Please be at the event a full half hour early if you wish to participate.

  1. All tournament participants must possess a valid Anime Expo convention badge, valid for the day of the event.
  2. Cosplay is encouraged but not required for this event. All players costumes who have been approved by our judges will recieve an extra “$10 dollars” of chips.
  3. Everyone starts out with “$10″ dollars in chips.
  4. The tournament honors Vegas Hold ‘Em rules as well as the houses rules of conduct.
  5. The tournament is non stop, with the exception of the scheduled breaks.
  6. The first break will be for 1 hour and will happen after the 4rth hour of the event.
  7. There will be 1 hour break for every 4 hours the tournament is run.
  8. There will be a break for 1 hour, and will occur once there is only one person from each table left.
  9. The tournament will not use actual money, and the chips have no monetary value.
  10. No player will be allowed to “cash out” early, although the player may elect to withdraw from the tournament early if they do so wish.
  11. The game will be played in two rounds; Primary, and Finals. The Primary round will reduce each table down to one single winner (of that respective table). The Finals will pit those winners against each other to determine a final winner.
  12. Prize support will be announced at the tournament’s start and will be awarded to first place only.
  13. A prize for “Best of Show” will also be given to the best dressed cosplayer, participating in the event. Best of Show will be announced at the end of the first break. Best of Show will be determined by AX Table Top Game Room Staff.
  14. NO CHEATING!!! We have an expert card manipulator and close up magician working on staff to inspire everyone to play fair and prevent cheating. If you cheat, YOU WILL BE CAUGHT!

*It is highly recommended that all cosplay be an costume that can be worn comfortably for extended periods of time and are not very space consuming.

EX: Vash the Stampeed is good. A full suit of cardboard mecha armour is bad.

Anime Expo Table Top Game Room Staff reserve the right to deny event entry to anyone whom we feel does not fit this recommendation. The reason we do this really is for your best interest and comfort!
