March 14th, 2011 – BOTB 2011 rules updated and posted, registration information will be announced at a later date. Updates include extended performance times (9 min), and re-definition of ‘professional’.
Rules
- Auditions must include an mp3 audio recording of your performance, and a jpeg photograph of of the performers.
- Each group can perform multiple songs, as long as at least one song falls within the following categories:
- Anime TV series/OVA/Movie (Opening/Ending/Main Theme/Soundtrack)
- Anime-Themed Videogame (Opening/Ending/Main Theme/Soundtrack)
- If performing multiple songs, you are allowed to perform other j-rock/j-pop songs that are not Anime-related, as long as least one song performed falls within the categories listed above.
- Performances must be no longer than 9 min. in length.
- There must be a minimum of 3 members per band, no more than 8 members per band are allowed.
- If chosen as one of the finalists, all band members must perform during the event, no exceptions.
- Participation by professionals is prohibited. Any performers found out to be as such will be disqualified. A professional is monetarily compensated for his or her work as a singer or musician.
- There must be at least one instrument used during the performance, no acapella.
- The top finalists will be contacted by BOTB staff to confirm their participation in the at-con performance. A list of the finalists will be posted on the Anime Expo® and BOTB websites.
- If chosen as one of the finalists, your performance piece will be the same as your audition piece.
- If chosen as one of the finalists, and plan on auditioning for AX Idol, you will not be able to perform the same song at both events.
