In 2010, Los Angeles rumbled with the glorious sounds of note ninjas engaged in combat. Once the dust settled, only one group stood victorious. These warriors of rock were declared champions as their names were celebrated throughout the land…

Time has passed, and the battleground has appeared again. Powerful titans will clash and musical weapons of myth will be wielded by only the most masterful of muses in preparation for supreme combat. Do you wish to join the insane musical combat? Do you dream about the glory of victory? Then get ready…because this battle is not for the weak.

March 14th, 2011 – BOTB 2011 rules updated and posted, registration information will be announced at a later date. Updates include extended performance times (9 min), and re-definition of ‘professional’.


Rules

  1. Auditions must include an mp3 audio recording of your performance, and a jpeg photograph of of the performers.
  2. Each group can perform multiple songs, as long as at least one song falls within the following categories:
    1. Anime TV series/OVA/Movie (Opening/Ending/Main Theme/Soundtrack)
    2. Anime-Themed Videogame (Opening/Ending/Main Theme/Soundtrack)
    3. If performing multiple songs, you are allowed to perform other j-rock/j-pop songs that are not Anime-related, as long as least one song performed falls within the categories listed above.
  3. Performances must be no longer than 9 min. in length.
  4. There must be a minimum of 3 members per band, no more than 8 members per band are allowed.
  5. If chosen as one of the finalists, all band members must perform during the event, no exceptions.
  6. Participation by professionals is prohibited. Any performers found out to be as such will be disqualified. A professional is monetarily compensated for his or her work as a singer or musician.
  7. There must be at least one instrument used during the performance, no acapella.
  8. The top finalists will be contacted by BOTB staff to confirm their participation in the at-con performance. A list of the finalists will be posted on the Anime Expo® and BOTB websites.
  9. If chosen as one of the finalists, your performance piece will be the same as your audition piece.
  10. If chosen as one of the finalists, and plan on auditioning for AX Idol, you will not be able to perform the same song at both events.
