Set rotation
Each DJ set will typically be 45 minutes to an hour long, after which another DJ will rotate in. Music selections will be based upon crowd reaction, but be assured that we plan to give each genre (hip-hop/electronic/rock/etc) as much equal play time as possible.
Requests
Feel free to ask for a particular song or genre. If you feel we’ve been playing hip-hop for too long, tell us! We’ll do the best we can. Please understand that we get a lot of requests, so satisfying everyone is rather difficult.
Concerts/ Performances
Common Ground Dance Team
common ground: (noun) Shared beliefs or interests; A foundation for mutual understanding.
Every single person has different capabilities, abilities and gifts. Every individual experiences different ups and downs, success and failure, happiness, and sorrow. We are our own characters and personalities, but we dance. We dance to express our souls. We dance so that tears of pain and happiness blend with our sweat. Dance brings us together as a family.
We all may come from different backgrounds, lifestyles, precedence, or means… but one thing is for certain… dancing is our Common Ground…
Common Ground will have Hip-hop workshops on Thursday, July 3rd, at 1 PM and 3 PM.
Common Ground will also be performing on Thursday, July 3rd, at 10 PM.

Masquerade Ball
Masquerade Ball will be returning this year!
The ball will be held on Friday, July 4th.
A dance instructor will be on hand to teach various styles during a two-hour period. The main styles being taught will be Waltz and Swing.
We encourage all that attend to dress formally. We will not enforce a strict dress policy, however we do reserve the right to ask you to change if you show up in denim shorts. All (well, most) masquerade costumes are welcome!
- 2 PM - 4 PM - Dance Instruction
- 5 PM - 6 PM - Break
- 6 PM - 9 PM - Masquerade Ball
Want to be a guest DJ?
Guest DJ positions have been chosen for Dance 2008, but feel free to apply for next year! If you would like to apply for the position, please send a resume to mikoestacio [at] spja.org. Please include a demo (or four). I will be happy to accept demo’s sent electronically, uploaded to a website (myspace), or sent in snail mail.
If you have already sent in your resume AND demo, you’re in good shape. It doesn’t hurt to send me another email to touch base, though!
Interested in performing for dance?
AX Dance is a great place to showcase your band. Feel free to email me at mikoestacio [at] spja.org to voice your interest in playing for us. Please include a biography and resume of your band, as well as demos. (A video demo would be great!)
Please do this EARLY. Logistic issues require that we choose our bands far in advance, so the sooner the better! Please note that band slots for 2008 have already been filled.
If anyone has any questions or comments about the above information, or would like information on anything affiliated with Dance, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail.
