Have you ever imagined creating an original costume based around your favorite anime character? Have you been dying to dance in your Gackt costume but haven’t had the opportunity? Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to ballroom dance in your
costume? Have you found yourself wondering what these questions have to do with each other? Are you sitting there wondering where this is going?
The Masquerade Ball is a cooperative event from the Cosplay Events and Dance Depts. It’s a Ballroom dance and individual amateur* costume contest, done in cosplay style!
*Amateur is defined as a person or persons who :
- Create costumes for personal use without the intent of making a profit from their products.
- Do not create pieces specifically for sale.
This event will be held on Friday evening at 6 pm to 9 pm, located in the Dance Room of the LACC. While all Anime Expo® attendees are welcome to this event, wearing a costume and mask are highly encouraged.
The costume contest is geared toward original ballroom style costume based off or inspired by any Japanese Pop Culture genre. Whether it’s anime based or Visual Kei influenced, this event is open to all who have a desire to develop a unique ballroom style costume.
NEW The theme for this year’s Ball is, “Nature”.
What is this “Nature” theme, you ask? It’s the different elements seen throughout many Japanese Pop Culture genre such as anime, manga, games and music groups. Some examples are the three Priestesses of El Hazard, the various villages from Naruto, the animalistic characters of Inuyasha, the Shaman spells casted in Lodoss Wars, the Butterflies of Mana and many other sources.
Come and let your inner creative talent, no matter how unique, come out and shine! Or if you prefer, it can flicker or shimmy as much as you want. It’s all up to you.
PLEASE NOTE
The Anime Expo® Code of Conduct will be enforced at the door. If you are not dressed appropriately to go out in public, then you will be asked to change your attire.
