I wrote this story in some other message boards, I figured I'd share with you all. Some love it, some hate it..you decide. By this time of posting, the story (which is all real actually) took place about a year and a half ago. Anyway, have fun.

Memoirs of a Japanophile [Part 1 of 5]:

Hey, my name's Nick. I'm writing to you all to tell a tale about an experience I had with a Japanese foreign exchange student. These first lines are merely some sort of disclaimer..though I don't really know what to disclaim. I sort of feel embarrased to write this, considering it's something personal, and I'd really hate to be ridiculed for this.

Now that I think about it, I do have something to disclaim..or claim. All of this was real, none of it was made up..and this is all from my own experience. I'm not gonna lie about this either or make up things so here I go..

..but I digress. About a year and a half ago, I was your typical High School student. I had average grades, I wasn't popular, and I wasn't a dork. I got along with everyone, and everyone got along with me, to some degree. I was probably a little shorter, a little thinner, and a little less wiser, brave, and outgoing, but nonetheless it was still a fundamental me. I liked (and still do) most races of people, finding good qualities by them..and the asians were no exception. I liked their eyes in some asians, and I definitely liked the asians with nice legs. Moving on. So sorry. So I had been walking along, minding my own business, with a little clique of my oldest and best friends (A group of guys I'd been hanging out since elementary school...1st grade and all that.) and to my surprise, I had seen this somewhat short, cute looking Japanese girl.

Naturally, I had taken curiosity to her. She seemed modest, she wore one of those jean skirts, and a small shirt with one of those pink jean jacket things...seemed pretty normal from where I lived, anyway. She didn't give a passing glace, but it didn't matter; I knew I'd talk to her eventually.

Skip to maybe 2 weeks later..I had happened to go on my own to 7-eleven (during lunchtime, we had an open campus, it was pretty nice.) and buy me some food. I forgot what I had (most likely a hot dog) but upon consuming it, I walked out and headed back to school. I hang out with plenty of groups, so I never worried about making plans with anyone, I'd just walk back and find a group to hang out with. Surprisingly, I had found this Japanese girl again, and this time she was talking to my friend Liz. Using Liz as a catalyst (mutual friend, ha!) I proceeded to introducing myself, upon acknowledging Liz's existance first. This girl's name was Akiko. She seemed really nice, from the get go. I had posted in the other thread that she was like a watered down, diluted Ultimate Sweetness, and I wasn't lying. She really was a nice girl.

I didn't know much Japanese at all, just a few words and the basic greetings and things (Just a bit less than I know now..I'm still pretty useless at it.), and she would laugh as I'd practice. "You know Japanese!" She'd say excitedly. I shook my head and said I didn't. Lucky for me she was really good at English..good grammar and all, her pronunciation needed work, but she was very good. I didn't wanna look like a stalker, so I decided to cut our meeting short and go hang out with some friends.

It was during this time, that my buddy Jawn had recently broken up with (and is now back together with, naturally..) his girlfriend. I guess he was a new single on the prowl, and whatever. He was far more forward than I could ever be (a bit opressingly forward..), and enjoyed racing with cars. On one of our racing outings (we'd drive out to a mountain road and go fast on it in his CRX..good times.), he was telling me that he had invited the "Japanese girl Akiko" to hang out and stuff. I guess I felt a little jealous, but I put that aside..I didn't think I'd make anything happen with my acquaintance.

The next time I saw her, I had seen her inside of a classroom, studying...at LUNCH. She was in a skirt, and I couldn't resist..honestly, so I went in. Luckily, Liz was there again, so it made me feel a bit more at ease. I had talked to Akiko again, and this time I could feel like I could show another part of myself; the entertainer. Indeed, I had proven to be a good one, because I made her laugh and all that, as she was studying. It was only for a short while anyway, we had an hour lunch and it was only like 10 minutes that I was there. I asked her about her little PDA looking thing that was actually an English to Japanese translator, it looked really cool. Anyway, I decided not to bother her anymore, so I left. Liz quickly cornered me outside.

"So...do you like Akiko?" she asked.

I decided I'd better answer honestly. Liz knew what kind of person I was. "Well..I think she's really nice, she has a cute smile and nice legs...so I guess I like her. Why?"

"Oh, just wondering, you look interested, that's all."

I guess it was pretty obvious. The interesting part is...Liz was her host family..sister, thing. I knew that from years before, Liz had Japanese foreign exchange students come to stay at her place. This year it was Akiko...and I didn't know until Liz told me later. It was then that I figured out that just maybe Akiko would find out.

...ah well, I kind of wanted her to know anyway..better her friend give her hints. I'll let her know later.

To be continued.

I'll post the second part after I start getting some replies.

DO tell, hell this should just be the "Share your stories about Japan" thread.

Memoirs of a Geish-- no wait. Memoirs of a Japanophile [Part 2 of 5]:

Akiko and I had started to frequently hang out with eachother during lunchtime more often. She asked me what I wanted to do with myself after school. I told her I was considering getting my real estate license. She laughed and said, "Don't do that! My dad does that."

...And he's able to afford to send his lovely daughter across an ocean to attend a public ghetto ass american school? I want in on that !@#$.

Anyway, the more we hung out, the more we found out about eachother. She liked Karaoke, and I liked cars. She said she'd go out to the Karaoke places or whatever with friends and spend hours at a time just singing away their lives. I was a little aware of the Karaoke thing in Japan, but looking back, I guess EVERYONE at some point does Karaoke in their lives, and not just Japan...I guess Japan made it more popular to do during the week, instead once every few years.

It was convenient. She satisfied my Japanese curiosity (while looking good too), and I satisfied her American curiosity. I asked her the differences between Japan and the U.S..her answer is pretty much on the dime, I suppose.

She said, "Japan is like this (She spaced her hands apart vertically, indicating Japan was tall) and like this (spaced her hands apart, indicating Japan was narrow). America is like this (wide), and like this (short)."

To the point, and no bull!@#$. That's Akiko for you.

She was my comfort pillow sometimes, and I was hers. Whenever we saw we were down, we weren't afraid to cheer eachother up, or give eachother a hug. She was soft to hug..not like bony and jagged...I don't know, it's hard to describe. Sometimes you just know a girl when you hug 'em.

There was this one incident that was pretty funny. She kept asking me about American music artists, that I didn't like. I told her I would prefer some Japanese artists over american ones. She asked which ones, to which I had responded a few..one of them being BoA (I know she's Korean.). I swear to god...I think this is the first time I've ever seen a human being !@#$ a brick, do quick short hops, clap with fingers stretched out patting your palms, while doing quick bursts of "Ohhh! Oh oh oh oh!"

I know what you were thinking, on that last part, pervs.

So I quickly deducted that she knew who this BoA was.

She pulled out of her purse a CD case, to which she opened it up and showed me her CD collection. Sure enough, a few of them were from BoA. She tried telling me which songs she liked, but I didn't know some of them. I tried telling her the one that I REALLY liked from BoA (Every Heart), but she didn't know. She says, "Sing it!" To which I was embarrassed to..considering I didn't know what I was about to sing, though I knew the sounds. "Meguru meguru toki no naka de. Bokutachi wa ai o saga!@#$eiru" I sang. Once again, the brick !@#$ting, the quick bursts of short hopping, the Japanese-esque clapping (Really more like patting your hands together), and the "Oh oh oh ohhh!" had ensued once more.

Great mental picture, isn't it?

ANYWAY. So homecoming rolls around. At my school, the entire student body is placed in bleachers, having to watch floats go by and then having the homecoming candidates explain why they're to win the popularity contest. Needless to say, Jawn and Akiko had been sitting next to me. When Danielle came out to the floor, I quietly informed Akiko that she was Jawn's ex, and I suspected he still had feelings for her. Later on Akiko tells me that Jawn had invited her (Akiko of course) to go out to eat. I guess he was driving pretty fast, because she said he drove dangerously. I tried to explain that I was going to do that someday as well, but I'd be careful about what I was doing. She agreed to that. She also told me she didn't like him that much, considering that he was a bit of a stranger, and he was really forward (I guess pushy..) .

Nick: 1, Jawn: 0. GG pwnt.

As it turns out, Sadies was only a month away. Sadies is short for the Sadie Hawkins dance, the one where the girl asks the guy to the dance, and the two go out shopping and buy a similar outfit. She said she was going, but she hadn't picked her guy yet. I didn't press the matter further, but I did entertain the notion of it being me..of course.

I happened to see Akiko on this one weekend. She went to the mall with Liz, and she was in this REALLY short...shorts. Jean shorts. I saw a lot of leg action, yes I did. I almost thought they were Jean panties. Pretty much, think Koda Kumi "Butterfly" during the car washing scene. Butt-erfly indeed. I said hi to the two, made a little chit chat..then it occured to me. GET HER NUMBER DUMBASS.

I asked for Akiko's number, to which she gave it to me without any hesitation.

I called her that night...oh my. Has anyone ever talked on the phone for so long, that one of your ears gets sore from having it pressed to your ear for so long, that you have to switch ears? I think that was the first time I actually talked to a girl for 3 hours without stopping. It really was 3 hours, my cordless phone shows the time of how much you talked..180+ minutes or so.

We talked about a lot of stuff..mostly about how it was back in Japan for her. She said some of her friends that were like 20 years old had gotten pregnant {before she left and came to america) by their 30 year old boyfriends. For some reason, it didn't strike me as weird, though it probably is. I found out that her favorite part on a guy's body is his abs, and naturally she found out my favorite part(s). Legs are plural, after all. Anyway, we also agreed that it's okay for a boyfriend and a girlfriend to have sex, provided there's a condom. She also said she hadn't really had a boyfriend...

Ahem.

So the phone conversation was nice.

3 weeks before the Sadie Hawkins dance, I was approached by Akiko one day as I was walking to my class. She just jumped at me with this one.

"Hey Nick! Are you going to the dance?"

"Not really, why?" I responded.

"Well, do you want to come with me?"

"Sure!" (Of COURSE I would want to come with you, in more ways than one.)

We agreed that next week we were going to buy our outfits together at the mall...boy was THAT fun.

So next week...

To be continued.

Given that I'm a master of suspense, and a firm believer of delayed gratification, I'm going to Gomu Gomu no cliffhanger this and "stretch" post #3 until tomorrow, first thing in the morning.

God I'm such a bastard. :) Feel free to post your stories however.

Memoirs of a Japanophile [Part 3 of 5]:

It was a week later, and that particular day, we were doing a mock trial in my government class. I was the defense attorney, so naturally I was in a business suit. Unfortuntely, it was hot that day. Anyway, so after my class, school was over and I was walking around in a business suit. Akiko walks up to me and says, "Hey! Are you ready?"

Damn..this is gonna look strange. A salaryman and a Japanese girl. She may as well call me Papa.

The worst part about it is, I told her I had to go home and change into something better (not to mention do something about the sweat underneath the three layers of expensive looking clothing), so I tell her if she wouldn't mind walking into my house. She said she didn't, so we ended up doing so. She didn't mind walking the 1.5 miles it was to my house, she said she walked to-from school all the time. It was better that we did instead of buming a ride off of some of my friends anyway; we got to talk more.

As I got home, there were a few kids in there (daycare), so I told them to scram. they all went outside. I introduced Akiko to my parents, and they were all extra nice. "He never brings home girls!"

Thanks.

The truth was, I usually NEVER tell my parents about my adventures/misadventures/$#@!s/whatever to my parents. I hardly take girls to meet them. They think I'm still a virgin. Elle oh elle.

ANYWAY, I had to change, without doing anything weird like taking her to my room and changing in front of her. The computer in my house at that time was in my living room, so I put on some subbed Initial D for her to watch momentarily as I changed into some clothes I could use to go to the mall.

I went into the bathroom, and quickly composed myself. I wiped off any sweat (no time for a bath), put a small spray of CKone cologne, and changed into some good clothes. I came out, and she was all getting into Initial D, the anime I was showing her, which was kinda neat. For those of you who watched the series, I showed her the 4th Stage episode where Kyoko was racing Takahashi Keisuke, RX-7 FD vs. RX-7 FD battle.

"Oh! She likes him!" She said. Maybe she got into Initial D because of me? Who knows.

So anyway, I asked my dad if we could have a ride (I didn't have a license until I was 18..I'm such a bum, I know) to the mall, and he said "Sure." We took the Van, as we both sat in the two rear seats, and my dad drove. This is when things got interesting. I told my dad that Akiko likes Karaoke. Unbeknowst to her, my dad is a music FREAK...he loves music..he plays the guitar, he was once a hippie, he likes to sing...etc. He likes music SO much..that unbeknowst to ME, he had actually made a $#@!ing Karaoke set...IN the VAN.

I !@#$ you not. The Van is still equipped with the makeshift Karaoke set.

This is what he did..he basically got an amp, hooked up some speakers and a microphone to it, hooked the speakers to the audio to the car, and voila, a Karaoke set. If you've ever seen a Japanese roman candle in human form, this would be it. I swear to god this is like giving mice cheese laced with crack cocaine. "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE A KARAOKE SET IN YOUR OWN CAR!!!"

Out of ALL THE GIRLS I COULD HAVE INTRODUCED TO MY DAD...it had to be the one that melded with him perfectly..I mean, the timing couldn't have been any better.

So, my dad being the badass he is at this point, asks her to put one of her own CD's in it and sing to her own music. She does. She wasn't a great singer, but my dad didn't care..neither was he, and he was certainly approving Akiko. He then told me after the incident, "Man! She does Karaoke! If she parties and drinks too, you're going to marry her."

Well if you put it THAT way dad.

So we finally get to the mall. I think Akiko lamented getting off of the car, considering I had to half-pry her off of the door panel and microphone. Anyway, so there we were at the mall. We knew right away we had to buy a shirt, that was the most important part of the outfit..if the shirts matched. We went to an Anchor blue, and we looked around. Luckily, she wasn't like your typical girl that would just put on EVERY shirt on the shirt rack, and then ask for your opinion. We both seemed to communicate very well, as we only tried on about 3 shirts, finally deciding on a nice red one. Our other two choices were a spongebob shirt and some other shirt..but we decided they were too lame looking.

We bought matching Quicksilver hats too...so cute. ^_^

So anyway, not wanting to make the trip to the mall SO damn quick (because we seemed to agree on things rather fast..), I made a detour to the bookstore, pointing out anime. I told her I enjoyed anime as well, from time to time. She at first didn't know what to say..I thought, "$#@!, maybe I killed it for myself." She said a little apprehensively, "Anime in Japan is for children..sometimes.."

I don't think she really cared, because she started pointing out the different manga that she liked. There were some that were on the shelf I hadn't read yet (And I should have...stupid me.). She got one and showed it to me. "Oh! Have you read this one yet? It's called GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka."

I didn't know what it was about then, but looking back..it's a $#@!ing ecchi manga. She LIKES ecchi male oriented manga? $#@!! Why didn't I know this before?! I would have MILKED the !@#$ out of that!

Anyway, I showed her the ones I liked, and we had fun there. We got out and bought icecream at this one place. We sat down and talked a bit more. I figured at this point, it was CLEARLY safe to flirt with her. It was..I had jokingly went to go touch her legs, and she was giving this HALF ASSED attempt to block my legs. I would know leg blocking attempts, I've had them done to me before a bit, but this was pathetic! And then to add fuel to the fire, she kept giggling. I did manage to cop a feel, and yes..they felt nice. I then asked her, "Chigau?" With a cheeky smirk. And she laughed, "See! You know Japanese!"

"Well I AM ecchi.." I would tell her.

We had begun to flirt a bit more, as we would walk around aimlessly in the mall, and she would bump into me jokingly, and I'd bump back into her, or she'd hug me around my arm. I didn't mind having her at my side that way, honestly. With other girls, I'd feel highly uncomfortable because I'd feel like I was letting them on, and I didn't want to bring their hopes up...but not her. I was comfortable, and she was comfortable too. Afterwards, we went to the laser tag place, to watch some people play laser tag. It was this sort of dark place where it was like a maze, while Akiko and I watched from atop this balcony. Since it was dark, and we were the only ones there (the players are too busy shooting eachother as well), I continued hugging, stroking her sides, basically getting away with a lot of touching. We talked a lot more, and she tried to explain amid tickling and laughing that Japanese guys are very shy, while american guys are a bit more outgoing. She said I was good because I wasn't too outgoing.

Nick: 2, Jawn: 0. Huzzah!

We eventually got out of there, and we decided to finally go get a pair of similar pants. This didn't take long either, but it wasn't much of a surprise. I was actually getting a little tired and sick (I think it was a fever.), but I also didn't want the day to end either. We spent a little more time at the mall, but we ended up calling her host mother to pick her up. She dropped me off, and we hugged one last time.

Then..the day of the dance finally came.

To be continued.
