AMV- One category rendered? You had all day to realize you didn't have a final copy (and there should have been several backup copies), so instaed of re-rendering the files which you should have done, you decide to get everyone inside and say oops. Sadly for those who watched the rest of the AMVs on Sunday morning, they found Skittles was the best AMV shown. Not that it mattered too much since NO ONE COULD VOTE but the creators.

SOS signing- 100 people or 1 hour of people? Nobody knows! Those of you who waited for several hours were told to deal with it.
AX Idol- After sitting through endless plugs for something Johnny Bosch is in, the finalists were thrown on stage with no direction and hurried off to make way for a Momoi concert that I had no intention of watching. Also, having Johnny being cocky on stage insulting every finalist wasn't very enjoyable either. And he also looked really pissed when he was told his band wouldn't be performing. Also, the singing winner was questionable, even she didn't believe she should have won. Then, they end with a Momoi concert as if the one on Sunday wasn't enough.

SKIN Concert- Starting nearly two hours late, some people had paid $50 for tickets and then AX gave away the rest (ironically the tickets given away were even better seats).

Registration- It's nice to be inside an airconditioned building when you're waiting for 4 hours, instead of outside in the sun and dodging traffic.

Dealer Hall- How do I get back to Artist Alley? I have to walk half a mile?! No thank you.

Masquerade- Everything went downhill after starting on time. Nearly half of all entries were not ready when tech decided to start playing audio, and after sitting through a martial arts demonstration that I was promised was "not the same as last year" (which it was, but had pirate and ninja jokes inbetween) I watched as no one on stage knew who won. As they rushed through, they even announced some winners wrong.

Transformers- Some woman yelled at people for standing up in their seats while they were still letting people in, threatening to not show the movie because of this. This was especially irritating after people were in the sun for 6 hours only to be cut in front of by exhibitors. There was even a woman who fell over due to heat exhaustion, after which a staff member then offered to sell her a bottle of water for $3.

Please stop spamming the forums with rants, it may be bad for you, but those who the difference between some serious work, should know that you have to give some respect to the staffers, who worked their hearts out. Dont complain about lines and waiting becasue that is suppose to be expected. Also, there were the really awesome things

1. You didnt have to worry about getting a seat to any event, because there would be enough space, no need to wait in line if ur jsut want to watch

2. weve had some of the best line ups of bands this year, and some of the most popular GoH to actually attend, if there werent complications, what do would you expect

3. Artist Gallery, i dont see anything wrong with that, i wore ankle waits during the con, and the way the artist gallery was set, was a good idea

4.SOS wasnt at fault, people cutting in line and refusing to the rulers were.

5. Dont blame Ax, blame Long Beach rules.

I think this is the most insulting thing I've read all night. Maybe you should start the "best AX ever thread" so we don't have to hear it in the rant thread.

Best AX was 2003 for me. :)

And we should be able to voice our opinions.

I know you guys are all hard workers. But from the majority of the staff or the volunteers that I saw, I'm pretty sure they weren't working their hearts out very much.

Maybe we should just let AX go to hell [Los Angeles Convention Center, to be exact] and focus on Anime Los Angeles.

Reading the last 5 pages has been alot of fun. Hopefully the staff/administration will spend half as much time listening to our input.

I have many gripes myself, however repeated many times over already. Long Beach Convention Center handles dozens of larger, more complicated conventions and events than this every year with much success. Giving AX staff the benefit of the doubt, yes they don't have as many staff as say the Long Beach Grand Prix (100000 attendees over about 3 miles of area), however, there were a significantly larger number of "Red Coats" out there this year milling about in their little groups. That doesn't upset me either. What upsets me is that you have over a year to plan this. They know EVERY single convention center they could possibly use. They KNOW that people will want to line up several hours early for panels/concerts/reg etc. They KNOW the layout and access routes of the area. So my question is...what do they do the entire year? There should never be a moment of "omg where do we put this line" or "umm i'm not sure where this is" at all from the staff. There will be hang ups, there will be problems, but not on this level. The use of the facilities, traffic flow, and line planning was insanely horrible.

And here is what is actually insulting to me as a devoted fan of this convention and anime in general. They know the level of dedication we have, they know we will stand in a line for hours and hours for a delay caused by poor planning, and that when it's over we'll say "well it was worth it". That my friends, is just abusing us for our dedication and our devotion to the Japanese culture and this event. I know I'm not alone when I say that I find it deeply afflicting that we've been wronged like this...

I'm more than willing to put my "money where my mouth is". I will not quit my career (and yes i have one) to take the reigns there. But, if AX staff is looking for someone part-time for management level Access Control, PLEASE feel free to PM me with contact information. At least then I know that I earned my salary (paid by us attendees).

This staff was disappointingly, disgraceful, and humiliating, as representatives of US anime culture, and as representatives of our country itself to our foreign friends that came all this way to share a passion.

End Rant, hopefully someone takes the time to read it.

I agree with this post completely.

Cybertrooper, a big problem was that some events started late. I wanted to attend some some anime and stuff that was after the original time that the event was suppose to end and was forced to choose along with many others cause the concerts were very late. That isn't good bussiness. I expect things to be run basically on time and things to be run smoothly to a degree, that is what I had for the most part last year. I understand something being 30 mins late, but not 2-3 hours late. I know alot of people who were dissappointed by the SOS Brigade and wished they did the thing they planned to do which they could have done if they started the concert at time.

The best GOH are great and all, but if things are run poorly, people will complain and not come back. This in turn will effect money the con will have. Those great GOH won't come back due to poor mismanagement. Kunai has some legit complaints and is backed up by a GOH who didn't have a good time and was treated poorly. As I said in that thread, if alot of complaints from attendees won't help, hopefully Momoi Halko complaint about AX will hopefully

Only three things really annoyed me at this years AX. Well, I'm peeved over the AMV's. I really wished they just warned the crowd that all the AMV's wouldnt be played because that would have given us a few hours to do whatever we want. I also thought that the translator for the SOS thing failed horribly. I don't believe she RARELY translated anything for the Host or the crowd. I was lucky enough to know enough japanese to get by, but a lot of my friends were more or less clueless as of what was going on for a majority of the concert. Lastly, was there seriously only one way in and one way out into the dealer hall? Everytime we would try to leave or enter from another area we were turned away, and that really sucked especially when we were loaded up with goods. ;[

I still managed to enjoy my stay though because Oreskaband was freakin amazing.

Oh yeah, I can't even imagine how insulted the SOS girls must have been when they found that their songs were skipping because of a computer that could not handle running WMP. I mean sure the translator was pretty bad, but still, something like that should not have happened.

Dude it was awful.

My friend left most of his stuff with staff at the SKIN concert.

When he came back he asked for it, staff said they dumped it in the dumpster along with other people's, when he came back from the concert. He had his wallet, driver's license, food, room keys and a ton of other things in staffs hands. (It was in a backpack)

He was kicked out of con for going crazy on staff, he had a right to do so.
I don't get why staff would do such a thing.
Lost all his money and everything nearly, it killed his time at the con since he was kicked out anyways.

That was just not cool AX Staff, not cool at all. <_<

Wow, that must've been horrible. I feel sorry for your friend.

But, I'd go crazy on them too. Those would be MY things had something like that happen to me.

Someone would get beaten up. :(

But those stupid rules that were enforced at the LBCC were really really retarded.
I don't think that would've happened to your friend if they ACTUALLY intended on giving it back and not throwing people's belongings in a dumpster.

I mean wtf?

Once again, if this was going to be a problem and it SHOULD HAVE been completely anticipated by AX staff, how come there was not a good solution in place to avoid things like this happening? Boggles me.

Staff Pro != AX Staff.

There's a huge difference, and you never ever leave personal items with a concert staffer anyways unless it's at a designated location. Your friend got what was coming to him for being dumb.

For the record, don't get me wrong; I feel for your friend. That blows, losing all your stuff. At AX04 I lost a necklace I spent $65 on. It really sucks, but at the same time it was something that could have easily been prevented by using common sense.

I noticed that. This years' volunteers were FLUNKIES! You know? What happened to the people who RAN AX around 2002 - 2003? They were much more organized that the power-tripping fools this year.

HOW ABOUT GETTING THOSE PEOPLE BACK? Or did AX scare them away this is why AX 2007 had gone to Hell progressively after that year???

Seriously.. The lines were outrageous this year. THE WORST AX EVAR!!!

And I was just kinda wondering... how come they had all those exit signs lit when they wouldn't let you use them as exits? It made it really hard just to get OUT of the exhibit hall. XP

Omg i totally agree
since one day they let us out the front i went the next day and they didnt let me
and then they pointed to teh other end of the dealers hall and THEY POINTED ME TO ANTHER PLACE CUZ
"you can't exit here"
hello what the heck does the flashin
"EXIT" sign stand for then ?!
im sorry i did love AX but over half of it was just a waste of money
also
i got harrassed by a bunch of random skaters on sunday who were all
"hey you sell hentai?"
any one else see them?
HELLO IMA FRIKEN MINOR!
also
dear lord i think i can be categorized as a medim rare steak w/ all the roasting i got. most of teh staff was wonderful but some of them were ... icky.
they were completly out of the loop and unhelpful beyond comprehension.
pesonally this has only been my second AX
and even with only last year to complare it to i can still say it was horrible.
i would like to apopgize for my negative input again but honestly? constructive critizism hurts, so just learn from your mistakes and go on AX Staff.
(i wholeheartedly agree w/ KhalReblic23)
EDIT::
also? i hated the staff w/ teh power trips during the concerts
i was in charge of my friend's 10-year-old brother whith my other friend during the concert and just cuz we had different seats they wouldnt let us sit w/ him
WE HAD A FRIKEN EMPTY SEAT NEXT TO US!!!!!!!!!!
safe to say we lost him and panicked for a good half hour

I personally had a good time, though do to some complciations i wasn't abel to meet up with my friends, but made the best of it anyway ^^. The two days i was there (sun/mon) basicly went like this; arrive much later than expected (yes, the LA area and I don;t get along well at all, ever.), after finally arriving i was handed a ticket to the Oreskaband, , so decided to go since i had to wait till 3 to check into my room anyway. concert was fun ^^. then i checked out the exhibit hall for a while before finally checking into the Hyatt. finally, i finished the evening off by hanging out at the Summer Festival which turned out to be very fun. The next day (mon), i got my stuff together and checked out before going to the Halko Momoi concert (my main reason for being there monday), and was very pleased with the experience ^_^, in fact, that Halko concert in of itself made the whole trip worth while.

as for staff, there did seem to be quite a few "not so helpful" ones, usually locatable by finding them in groups of more than 3. but otherwise I found them to be helpfull while finding the right line to get into for bagde pick-up (forgive me , but i had just been driving for teh last 2.5 hours and was very tired and dissoriented >_<). and I found the CC staff at the Halko concert to be very nice and kindly guided me to my seat.

all in all, the trip would not have been worth it if not for Haruko Momoi, so thank (insert diety of preference here) that she was there.

oh, and on an additional note, if AX is at the LACC, unless they get some godlike GoH, im not risking having my car jacked. really, ,what's wrong with San Diego? would save me a good 30-60 minutes of driving, and i actually know the area XD. but yeah, would rather have it at the LBCC than in LA, if only for safety reasons.

Where the hell is the sense in what you just said? <_<

It's their responsibility to watch your stuff, they are supposed to watch you stuff because it's their job and a requirement by AX, con staffers get payed to do it not the other way around. They asked him to hand him the bag anyways.

Regardless whether he could have given staff just the camera, it would have been stupid anyways to throw it away.
You don't get the situation at all, look from someone else's perspective.

Where is the respect in that?
He got his stuff thrown away not by a bully or a thief, but a staff member. That is never supposed to happen.

I felt so bad for him when I was at AX, he planned all year.
He lost his room, money, badge, just about everything he planned on having/using at AX.

How do you find it that it was coming towards him when it was staff's responsibly to keep his belongings safe?
