I've been working on translating the deathnote TCG rule book. I doubt my translation is perfect, but if anyone cares:

The offical rules site can be found here:
http://www.konami.jp...hnote/card/rule

This is a very rough translated and transcription of the first 10 pages or so:

Quote

DEATH NOTE TCG
This game uses DEATHNOTE as its source material.
Two players lead "the investigation" freely using the action of "Death Note". You win by obtaining 13 victory points through events and abilities.
Use 40 cards per deck.
Booster packs are on sale now to replace cards in your deck to make an original deck.

Bottom Right:
The action of a character can cancel the character of your opponent. The player which first acquires 13 victory points wins the game.

Page 3:
Required to play.
The 40 cards you use are called your deck. The deck must be built using the following rules:
Rules of Deck Building
40 cards per deck. Only 4 cards of the same name can be used per deck.

Playmat:
A detailed discernment of the playmat can be found on page 7

Death Note:
It becomes necessary where the "KIRA" card is placed. Placing the KIRA card in the book, one can make the character of the partner cancel.
A detailed descripion can be found on page 17.

To the right of the mat are where you mark your victories (from 0-13)
The characters are placed here {{ARROW TOWARDS THE BOXES ON THE PLACEMAT}}。You can have up to 6 characters.
The Deck is placed here {{ARROW POINTS TOWARDS DECK SPOT ON PLACEMENT}}
The discard pile is below the deck.

Page 9:
Before the start of the game, the following preparations take place:
1.Game mats are placed flat before each player. The playmats can be expanded and connect with your partner.
2. Decks are prepared. Shuffle until both players are satisfied. Place them above the grave yard.
3. Decide who goes first.
4. Draw your Hand
Draw 6 cards. If you don't like your hand, you may reshuffle it and get a new hand once. The player who goes first goes before the player who goes second (?). You do not show your hand to your opponent.
Mark the position of your victories to zero.
Check at the end of each turn. If a player have 13 or more victories, they win. If a player runs out of cards in their deck when they draw, they lose.

Page 10:
Turns advance in the following Order:
1. If you have less victory points than your opponent at the start of your turn, you get 1 victory point.
2. Draw 1 card.
3. Make all characters you control "untapped"
4.Main Phase: 4 Things can be done:
-One of your own characters can perform an action
-Play an event from your hand (your opponent can do this too).
-A face down character can be flipped face up (an opponent can do this too).
-A face down special card can be flipped face up (an opponent can do this too)
5.Main Phase 2: 4 Things can be done:
-A character can be played from the hand (1 per turn)
-A character can turned face down (once per turn per person)
-You can cancel one of your own character's specials.
-You can play a face down special from the hand.
6.End Phase
-Check to see if anyone has 13 victories. Its your opponent's turn.

Death Note Actions:

Using the deathnote, one can kill enemy characters.

When you first use a deathnote action, you place the KIRA card on the opposite side of the character you wish to kill.

The next turn, you show the choice to your opponent. If the character is in play on your opponent's field, the character is killed. A face down character is not destroyed from this.

I'll post more (maybe after watching the instructional videos or something) when I get more information.

If you see me at Con (look for the red-mage badge), feel free to ask me for a game of magic. If you have no deck, or want wacky-casual fun, ask me to bust out my DC-Fun/DC10 cube. If you win, you get to generate a card to add to the cube after the con!

If you have won in the past, and want a link to the complete rules, feel free to PM me.

Oh, oh ... the lack of surprise I have at the notion that there is a Death Note TCG...

There's also a Hikaru no Go, High School Musical (2), Sim City, Nightmare Before Christmas and Dilbert Card Game.

Trust me, there's a card game of everything. I even found one card game called "Lesbian Sex, The Card Game". Its not a TCG but still...

But really, after seeing and buying Hikaru no Go cards I stopped being surprised at TCG choices. I mean...this is a trading card game based on a TV show based on a manga based on a board game.

It honestly hurts my brain more than the World of Warcraft miniatures game coming out soon...note the "World of" part.

Yes, it is a miniature's game based on an MMORPG, based on a combination of a tabletop RPG and a tactical game, based off another miniature game.

Aaah franchises.
