Welcome to our little tea party. Venture from table to table of enchanting characters, each brimming with faux treats that look good enough to eat. Each party has its own story to tell, limited only by their imagination and skill. This competitive event showcases cosplayers and crafters in an interior design challenge with a tea party theme. NOTE: No food or drink will be served.

Entry Requirements
- The online registration form must be filled out by the contact person of the group entering Midnight Tea.
- Online registration will close when all available primary and standby entries are filled.
- All contestants must fill out and sign the General Release & Waiver Form.
- Any contestant under 18 years of age at the time of the Midnight Tea, must have their parent or legal guardian sign the appropriate section of the General Release & Waiver Form paperwork
- At least one contestant from the entry MUST check into the Cosplay Events Office for final updates, information and submission of updated information by TBA.
- Due to space limitations, Midnight Tea will have 10 primary entries.
- There will be up to 5 stand-by entries.
- Each entry will have a 7×7 foot area to decorate. One table and four chairs will be provided.
Contestant Rules
- No real food or drink is permitted due to LACC rules. Non-edible replicas are fine to complete the visual presentation for a tea setting.
- Contestants must adhere to the Anime Expo Code of Conduct. This applies to costumes and decorations.
- Each entry is limited to a maximum of 4 members.
- All contestants must be respectful and careful of each other, their costumes and props at all times. Willful damage of costumes and/or props or inappropriate behavior toward other contestants or staff will result in disqualification.
- For safety reasons flash powder, fireworks, lasers, electrical flashes, smoke machines, and open flame are not allowed.
- All contestants may participate in a single entry only.
Please check with the Midnight Tea Coordinator if there are questions about certain aspects of your costume, tea set, or visual presentation. Do not risk disqualification and possible expulsion from the convention by dressing or behaving inappropriately.
Costume and Decoration Rules
- All entries must be accompanied by a reference book or album with the following information:
- A description of the theme for that entry’s tea party (minimum 1 paragraph.)
- Information on the costume(s) being presented:
Name of inspiration source
Name of character(s)
Pictures of original character(s) if applicable (front, back, side & any important details)
Clear images showing construction progress (minimum of 6 pictures)
Place captions for all photos. Please make it as clear and neat as possible - All images and photos are required to be placed in a binder or album.
- Place images in order of character information followed by construction photos.
- Costumes entered into Midnight Tea must be Lolita/Aristocratic based.
- All costumes in the entry must match the entry’s theme.
- Each entry is required to have the following for their setting:
- Theme matching Tea set that includes:
- Tea pot
- Tea cup(s) & saucer(s)
- Spoon(s) & related utensil(s)
- Sugar bowl or sweetener caddy
- Theme matching centerpiece.
- Theme matching Tea set that includes:
- Costumes should not be constructed with messy substances or materials. Paint or make up should not come off during casual contact with others.
- Purchased or Rental costumes are prohibited.
- All Props must conform to Anime Expo’s Weapons Policy.
- Costumes and Props must be constructed by:
- Contestant wearing the costume.
- Fellow members of the entry group.
- Family or friends without monetary compensations. Any assistance from family and friends is limited to one group.
Awards and Prizes
A panel of judges will select the winners for all awards. All aspects of the costumes, tea set and presentation of the tea setting will be judged. Themed items beyond the requirements will be taken into consideration.
- Top 3 Awards: This category of awards is presented to the entries that have shown the best overall use of themed costume(s), tea set, and visual presentation. The Awards are:
1st Place
2nd Place
3rd Place - Judges Awards: These awards are selected by the judges for entries they deem worthy of award that did not place in the top three. Each judge may present one award based on their personal selection.
