Frequently Asked Questions

If you cannot find your answer below, please contact customer service at 301-694-5243 or 866-229-3691 or email anime08 [at] experient-inc [dot] com with your questions about registration for Anime Expo® 2008.

Q: What is the age range for the child pass for Anime Expo?

A: A 4 day pass for children ages 6-12 is $30, while children age 5 and under are free. Children age 13 and older must purchase a regular adult pass.

Q: I pre-registered but can’t make it to Anime Expo this year, can I get a refund of my membership?

A: If the refund is requested before the posted refund deadline, you may contact our Registration customer service and ask to get your pre-registration refunded. However, refunds requested past our posted refund deadline will not be processed. There are NO exceptions to this rule. If the refund is requested after the deadline, we can do a one time transfer of your membership to the next year’s Anime Expo.

Q: What is your policy on refunds?

A: SPJA/Anime Expo will process refunds for attendees that have pre-registered and paid for attendance to the 2008 Anime Expo if the request is made via e-mail or telephone to our Registration customer service by the posted deadline.

Our refund deadline is June 20th, 2008.

Refunds after this date will not be accepted and there are NO EXCEPTIONS.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: Only credit cards (Visa, Mastercard & American Express) are accepted for pre-registration through the online registration website. During the convention, you can register on-site (LACC West Hall A), with credit cards, cash and money orders made out to SPJA.

Q: Can I pay for my registration at the convention or do I have to use the online web form and credit card to pre-register?

A: You can register on-site at the LACC West Hall A, but expect longer lines as well as a higher price. We strongly recommend that those planning to attend Anime Expo utilize the easy online system that we have set up even if the convention has already started.

Q: If I want to purchase my membership for Anime Expo on-site, can I come on Day Zero (July 2nd) to do so?

A: No, this day is ONLY for those that have pre-registered online. If you come to the registration hall without pre-registering, you will be directed to the nearest web cafe, where you can register online. If you want to pick up your badge on July 2nd, please register online first. All pre-registered attendees will need to bring a print out of your email confirmation + photo ID to pick up your badge on Day zero.

Q: I pre-registered online, but did not receive any confirmation e-mail.

A: Possible reasons for this may be: an error when inputting your email, mailbox being full at the time our confirmation was sent out, email server thinking the confirmation is spam and blocking it, or your email client filtered it out. If this has happened, contact our registration customer service for assistance.

Q: Is it possible to upgrade or downgrade my membership, so I can attend on other days, after I have already pre-registered?

A: Yes, please contact our registration customer service and give them all the necessary information (i.e. Name, confirmation number, telephone and e-mail address), so we can look you up and make the requested changes. Your credit card will either be refunded or charged the price difference. Please NOTE: downgrades will not be processed after the refund deadline of June 2oth. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Q: I have pre-registered online, but some of the information is wrong or missing (Full name, nickname, address, phone number, e-mail address, etc.)

A: Please contact our registration customer service with your registration confirmation number as well as the information that needs to be change.

Q: What kind of format should my nickname be in?

A: Your nickname should be alphanumeric with no special symbols. No inappropriate or obscene words will be allowed and we reserve the right to alter or remove it from your badge. Examples of inappropriate nicknames include obscene words as well as phrases such as “glomp me.”

Regarding picking up your Badge

Q: Where do I go to pick up my badge and badge holder?

A: Registration is located at the Los Angeles Convention Center in West Hall A.

Registration Hours for Anime Expo 2008

Wednesday, July 2 (Day Zero): 3 PM to 8 PM *Pre-registered attendees ONLY*

Thursday, July 3 (Day One): 9 AM to 8 PM

Friday, July 4 (Day Two): 9 AM to 8 PM

Saturday, July 5 (Day Three): 9 AM to 6 PM

Sunday, July 6 (Day Four): 9 AM to 2 PM

Q: What do I need to pick up my badge if I pre-registered online?

A: You MUST bring a print out of your registration confirmation email containing a barcode as well as a photo ID (copies of IDs are ok too).

Q: What types of photo IDs are accepted?

A: Basically anything with your picture on it (Drivers License, School ID, Work ID, Passports, Military ID, Yearbooks, etc.)

Q: What registration line do I get in if I pre-registered or is there only one line?

A: NO, there is not one long line for registration. When you get to the LACC, go to West Hall A where there are multiple registration lines. Once you enter the hall, look for the section labeled Pre-registration. Do not get into the At-con registration line as these lines will be the longest. If you are pre-registered, line up in the Pre-registration section of the hall. There are separate lines for Disabled Attendees, Artists, Industry, Press, Volunteers, Exhibitors and VIPs.

Q: Are badges being mailed to pre-registered attendees for Anime Expo 2008?

A: No, we are implementing a new “scan and go” system. Pre-registered attendees will be emailed a confirmation containing a barcode, which they will need to bring, along with a photo ID, to the convention. Scanners will scan the barcode and the badge will be handed to the attendee after verification of ID.

Q: My friends are not able to pick up their badges during registration hours. Can I pick up their badges in their place?

A: Yes, as long as you have a copy of their registration confirmation email and their photo ID (copies of ID will be accepted).

Q: “I under 13 and want to attend the convention by myself. Can I pick up my badge on my own or do I need an adult?”

A: Sorry, but minors under 13 need an adult to pick up the badge with the child. We encourage adults to purchase a pass in addition to the child pass to ensure that there is appropriate supervision for young children. Anime Expo does not provide child care.

Q: “I am over 13 and I want to bring my younger sibling that is under 13 to the convention. Can I pick up his/her badge or do I need an adult?”

A: We require those that are purchasing child passes have an adult to pick up the badge with them. We do this to make sure that the young children have someone to take care of them during the convention as we are not a day care.

Q: If I pre-registered for a one day membership or a two day membership, can I come on a day that I’m not registered for to pick up my badge and badge holder?

A: Of course, you can even come on Day Zero as you are a pre-registered attendee.

Regarding group registrations

To expedite the registration process and to shorten the dreaded registration lines, we are discontinuing group registration.

Q: Why is Anime Expo no longer accepting group registration discounts?

A: In the past, group registrations helped the staff handling mail-in registrations consolidate information more efficiently, however once we started online registration, we found that processing group registrations actually delayed our lines significantly. Therefore, to help expedite attendee processing and decrease our dreaded line wait times, we have decided to eliminate group registration and the discount associated with it.

Also, as we are always trying to improve the attendee experience, we are implementing a brand new “scan and go” system in 2008, which does come with extra costs, but the benefits will be obvious (faster attendee processing).
