ACCESS CONTROL

Department Description: To provide courteous and professional customer service and general crowd control to the attendees at Anime Expo. Key duties include line management, information services, and policy enforcement.

Requirements:

Customer Service experience (preferred; not required)

Mission: To ensure the safety and security of the event by managing all access into or out of the convention center while providing exceptional and professional customer service to all attendees of Anime Expo.

ACCOUNTING

Department Description: To ensure cash handling policy and procedure is followed for all cash transactions.

Requirements:

Ability to understand and follow cash handling policies and procedures.
Commit to 40+ hours during the convention run (Day -1 to Day 4).
Ability to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of pre-con training.

AMV (ANIME MUSIC VIDEO)

Department Description: To showcase a variety of anime music videos inside of a theatre and help execute the official AMV Competition.

Mission: To provide a safe community where attending artists can display their art work and draw their art in front of an audience.

ARTIST ALLEY

Department Description: To provide excellent customer service and enforce policies that ensure the safety of all attendees. Duties during the convention may include: policy reinforcements, resolving disputes, and reporting incidents.

Requirements:

Excellent customer service skills

ATTENDEE VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT

Department Description: Dedicated to sharing dance related interactive entertainment and programming to attendees.

BACK OF HOUSE

Department Description: Responsible for Main Events Hall Backstage Management. This includes upkeep of backstage dressing rooms and assisting with backstage rider requests.

Some knowledge of event production

Department Description: To provide a safe and secure area for attendees to leave their bags so that they may enjoy the entirety of Anime Expo.

Experience with Point-of-Sale (POS) system (preferred; not required)

Ability to lift at most 50 lbs. without assistance

Department Description: To ensure smooth operation of the Charity Auction by properly logging auction item donations, assisting with regulations/registration forms, overseeing the room, and helping with set-up/breakdown of event.

CONCIERGE

Department Description: To provide quality and professional customer service to all guests at Anime Expo and ensure the fulfillment and collection of contractually obligated items from Guests of Honor (GoHs).

Department Description: To provide cosplay sets and a cosplay repair station to attendees.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE

Department Description: Responsible for programming digital signage platform to format to a pre-approved visual guided by the marketing department.

Requirements:

Availability for a minimum of 16 hours of pre-con work to consult with marketing and test digital signage program.
Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and openness for feedback and adjustments.
Programming acumen will determine level of responsibility

Mission: To program digital signage program to ease input of content from the marketing department.

DISPATCH

Department Description: To provide accurate, real-time locations and information regarding all talent. This information is utilized by all departments via constant communication methods throughout Guest Relations.

At-con, Dispatch will be needed when Guests of Honor arrive from the airport, usually Day -2 or Day -1, then throughout the duration of Anime Expo. Dispatch is no longer needed by the end of Day 5, when most Guests of Honor have departed.
Specific times for shifts are determined by Guest of Honor schedules.

Mission: To act as the central hub of information regarding GoHs by constantly communicating said information and current GoH locations with all other Guest Relations departments.

eGAMING DEPARTMENT

Department Description: To provide a fun and safe place for attendees to enjoy all forms of electronic gaming.

Department Description: To provide a hub for all of the Entertainment Group’s departments that centralizes communications and issues recording/reporting.

Requirements:

Be well versed in a particular division’s departments and roles to better facilitate communications and problem solving
Be detail oriented and comfortable with accurately recording issues that come in from other volunteers
Be very familiar with the basic of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) or their Mac equivalents

Mission: To improve inter- and intra- division communications on-site during AX. As part of this overarching job HQ is also tasked with keeping track of locations of Entertainment Division Managers and the Director at minimum.

EVENT OPERATIONS

Department Description: The Event Operations department is in charge of assisting all participants of Anime Expo with any general inquiries. Key responsibilities include: filling out and logging incident reports, facilitating with any medical or security emergency, and supporting anyone with ADA needs.

Requirements:

Customer Service experience (preferred; not required)
Strong communication skills and able to follow explicit directions
Exceptional organizational skills
Ability to prioritize and solve problems quickly
Must be proficient in standard computer applications, platforms, and databases

Department Description: To help coordinate AX Fashion Show in pre-con preparation, event production/stage interaction, and fashion brand research.

Requirements:

Familiarity with event production
Knowledge of Fashion Brands/Fashion Show (Knowledge of Japanese fashion brands preferred)
Ability to handle high pressure situations

Department Description: Responsible for the content within the video rooms, help provide seating and order within the room, as well as interface with the industry with executing premieres.

Department Description: Designed to be a flexible set of AV trained volunteers that go and provide AV assistance when needed. Examples included supporting Lounge 21, the ribbon cutting ceremony, press conferences, and Community Stage.

PROJECT ANIME - A/V TECH

Department Description: A/V keeps mic feedback to a minimum, regulates volume, and troubleshoots when the sound system or other tech doesn’t work as intended. A/V is also responsible for taking notes on number of attendees that attend each panel, audience reaction/participation, and a summary of panel.

Requirements:

Requires knowledge of soundboard use and some familiarity of hooking up computers for projectors and sound systems. Guarding the equipment from curious hands is also important.
Good communication and listening skills, and attention to detail.

Department Description: To ensure the quality and fulfillment of sponsorship activations, wayfinding, and room layouts as well as ensuring the proper activation of safe spaces to support SPJA’s Youth Protection Policy.

Duties during the convention may include: handling badge-pick up, providing goodie bags, line control, cash handling, and troubleshooting registration inquiries.

TECHNOLOGY

Department Description: The technology department is responsible for managing the tech inventory including check in/check out processes, enforcing tech policies, and providing support for said inventory to all Anime Expo departments.

Requirements:

Availability for a minimum of 8 hours of pre-con work to set up devices and test machines within 30 days of Anime Expo
Organized with strong attention to detail for maintaining inventory
Easily follows instructions provided without deviating from them without escalation

Department Description: To help oversee the sales and distribution of tickets for Anime Expo’s various ticketed events as well as manage crowd control, check-in at the door and front-of-house issues in the venue.

Department Description: To provide quality transportation services during the Guests of Honors’ stay as they travel around Downtown Los Angeles and the surrounding areas during Anime Expo.

Requirements:

Managing outsourced transportation services
Familiarization with Guest of Honor schedules and the areas of Los Angeles and Orange County
Excellent communication skills
Strong ability to multitask
