      Without volunteers, there is no AX. The lifeblood of the AX community, volunteers work throughout the year to make Anime Expo possible!

    Everybody has a superpower. Anime Expo Volunteers come together every year to create the best fan experience for Anime Expo Attendees! There are a variety of exhilarating behind-the-scenes and enjoyable front-facing departments to choose from! Check out the Department List page to find out what your superpower is.

    Applications Close: March 31, 2023 at 6:00 PM PT

    • If you are a returning volunteer, no need to re-apply. Should your candidacy be of interest, either an SPJA employee or volunteer lead/assistant lead will reach out.
    • If you are a returning volunteer looking to switch departments, please email vr@spja.org so that we can update your information and notify the respective departments.
    • New volunteers will need to apply when the application becomes available on February 16th at 12:00 PM PT.

    AX Volunteer Program

    Requirements:

    • Must be at least 18 years old by May 1st of the year you wish to volunteer. All volunteers must be 18 before beginning any volunteer work or training. (i.e. To volunteer for Anime Expo 2030, you must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2030.)
    • Must have a minimum of 40-hour commitment scheduled (may include both pre-con and at-con hours).
    • Must be available for all of the Anime Expo show dates. Some departments may require earlier onsite arrival.
    • Complete Shiftboard Volunteer Application and Shiftboard Profile.
    • Complete Anime Expo Volunteer Checklist:
      • Complete Volunteer Onboarding Forms.
      • Complete a background check.
      • Complete Youth Protection Policy (YPP) courses.
      • Complete volunteer department-specific training and requirements.
    • Adhere to all SPJA Volunteer Policies and Guidelines.
