    Without volunteers, there is no AX. The lifeblood of the AX community, volunteers work throughout the year to make Anime Expo possible!

Everybody has a superpower. It could be anything from making the perfect Masquerade to providing Information Services to being the Registration volunteer who hands someone a badge to indescribable wonder. There are over 60 departments coming together to make AX. What's your superpower?

Attendee Volunteer

AX Volunteer

  • 40+ Hours

    Swag, food provision, complimentary badge for friend or family (not transferable to the next year), and leadership opportunities

Attendee volunteering is similar to AX Volunteering, except Attendee Volunteers can be assigned to any AX Department that needs assistance during the convention. They are the ninjas who are deployed out to save the day wherever the need arises!

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4-hour commitment (Note: You can only volunteer up to 8 hours per day. Each attendee volunteer will only be able to earn up to 4 comp codes max.)
  • Must be at least 18 years old by May 1st of the year you want to volunteer (i.e. To volunteer for Anime Expo 2030, you must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2030.)
  • Adhere to all SPJA volunteer policies/guidelines.
  • Complete your Shiftboard profile.
  • Complete the Youth Protection Policy (YPP) courses.
  • Complete volunteer onboarding forms.
  • Complete background check.

Perks:

  • 1-day badge code for AX 2020 for every 4 hours worked!
    • This 1-day badge code can be registered for yourself, family, or friends on any day of AX 2020 only. There is a limit of four total 1-day badge codes per attendee volunteer.
  • AX merchandise, such as lanyards, water bottles, and t-shirts can be earned. You must work a minimum of 4 hours to qualify.
  • For those who go above and beyond at your shift or work shifts on Day 4, you will receive even bigger prizes!
  • Resume and experience building.
  • Behind the scenes look at how conventions are run.

NOTE: Attendee Volunteers who have already purchased a badge are subject to the same badge refund policies as general attendees.

AX Volunteers are more involved in the planning stages before Anime Expo, as well as the daily operations during Anime Expo. While being an AX Volunteer requires more of a commitment, there are also more perks, including, but not limited to food provisions during the convention. With 60+ departments to choose from that range in size from less than ten people to three hundred strong.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old by May 1st of the year you wish you volunteer. All volunteers must be 18 before beginning any volunteer work or training. (i.e. To volunteer for Anime Expo 2030, you must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2030.)
  • Must have a minimum of 40-hour commitment scheduled (may include both pre-con and at-con hours).
  • Must be available for all of the Anime Expo show dates. Some departments may begin earlier and require people to arrive on-site earlier.
  • Complete department-specific training and requirements.
  • Adhere to all SPJA volunteer policies/guidelines.
  • Complete the Volunteer Shiftboard Application.
  • Complete your Shiftboard profile.
  • Upload proper identification photo to Shiftboard Profile.
  • Complete Youth Protection Policy (YPP) courses.
  • Complete volunteer onboarding forms.
  • Complete a background check.
